If you live in Fond du Lac and you need a trailer, you have options — but not all of them are worth your time. This guide covers everything you need to know about renting a trailer locally, including what Fondy Trailer Rentals has available, how pricing works, what to bring, and which communities throughout Fond du Lac County we serve.
The Fondy Trailer Rentals Fleet
We run seven trailers out of Fond du Lac and Plymouth. Every unit is clean, maintained, and ready to work. Here's what's available:
- 6'×12' Enclosed Cargo Trailer — The workhorse. Perfect for moves, motorcycle hauling, storing valuables during transport, or any job where weather protection matters. Fully enclosed with a rear ramp door and E-track tie-down points.
- 20ft Car Hauler with Electric Winch — Equipped with an electric winch for running and non-running vehicles. This is the trailer to grab when you're picking up a project car, buying a vehicle out of state, or running a car to/from a shop.
- 18ft Utility Trailer — Open-deck trailer ideal for lawnmowers, ATVs, small equipment, brush piles, and miscellaneous hauling jobs that don't need sides or a cover.
- 6'×10' Dump Trailer 10K — Hydraulic dump, high sides, and a rear gate. Built for yard waste, brush, gravel, mulch, demolition debris, and anything else you need to haul and unload quickly without touching it again.
- 30'+5' Gooseneck Deckover Trailer — Rated to 15,900 lb GVWR. This is the one you rent when everything else is too small. Heavy equipment, skid steers, large landscaping deliveries, multiple vehicles — this handles the serious loads.
- 8.5'×24' Tilt Deckover Trailer with Winch — 14,000 lb GVWR with a hydraulic tilt bed and electric winch. Handles full-size trucks, heavy equipment, and wide loads that won't fit on a standard flatbed.
- 6'×12' Open Utility Trailer — Compact and easy to tow. Great for smaller loads, lawn equipment, ATVs, or quick hauling jobs where you want a lighter, more maneuverable option.
No mileage limits, ever. Unlike U-Haul or Home Depot, we don't meter the miles. Haul to Madison, haul to Milwaukee, haul to the UP — pay for the rental period, not the odometer.
Pricing Overview
We keep our pricing simple and transparent. Rates start at $40 for 4 hours on the compact utility trailer — the enclosed and larger trailers step up from there. Full-day and multi-day rates are also available — the longer you need it, the better the per-hour value gets. The gooseneck and dump trailer have separate pricing given their capacity and hydraulic systems. Text Nick at (920) 381-9770 to get the current rate for the exact trailer and dates you need.
What's included in every rental:
- Safety chains, ball coupler, and all DOT-required lights already hooked up and tested
- Ratchet straps (trailer-specific load securement)
- Walk-through on hookup and operation before you leave
- Nick's cell number in case anything comes up on the road
What to Bring When You Pick Up
Renting from us is as simple as it gets, but come prepared:
- Valid driver's license — Required for all rentals.
- The right hitch — Know your ball size before you come. Most trailers use a 2-inch ball; the gooseneck requires a gooseneck coupler or a 2-5/16" ball setup in the truck bed. Not sure? Text us and we'll confirm before you make the trip.
- A tow vehicle with sufficient capacity — Your truck or SUV needs to be rated for the trailer's loaded weight. The gooseneck in particular requires a heavy-duty pickup (F-250/F-350 class or equivalent).
- A brake controller (for larger trailers) — Wisconsin law requires electric trailer brakes on trailers over 3,000 lbs when loaded. If your tow vehicle doesn't have a built-in brake controller, ask us about rental options.
Local Areas We Serve
We're based in Fond du Lac, with a second pickup location in Plymouth — putting us within easy reach of most of east-central Wisconsin. Here's how some nearby communities stack up on drive time:
Waupun (25 minutes north)
Waupun sits at the northern edge of Fond du Lac County. Dairy farmers, hobby farmers, and homeowners in Waupun regularly rent dump trailers and utility trailers from us. It's a straight shot down Highway 151.
Beaver Dam (30 minutes west)
Dodge County neighbors in Beaver Dam and Horicon use us for everything from spring cleanups to equipment hauling. The drive down Highway 33 is easy towing country — no tight turns, no traffic.
Ripon (35 minutes northwest)
Ripon folks typically call about enclosed trailers for moves or car haulers for vehicle transport. College move-in and move-out season at Ripon College generates a solid wave of rental inquiries every August and May.
Oshkosh (25 minutes north on 41)
Winnebago County residents in Oshkosh have been making the trip to Fondy for trailer rentals for good reason — our selection is broader and our prices are better than what's readily available locally. During EAA AirVenture, we book out fast for utility and enclosed trailers used to haul vendor equipment and camping gear.
Chilton (40 minutes northeast)
Calumet County is agricultural territory. Farm equipment moves, harvest prep, and large-load hauling bring Chilton-area residents to us regularly, particularly for the gooseneck. If you're moving heavy iron, it's worth the drive.
Tips for First-Time Renters in FDL
Book in Advance for Weekends
Weekends fill up fast — especially from April through October. If you know you need a trailer for a Saturday landscaping project or a Sunday furniture pickup, text Nick on Wednesday or Thursday at the latest. Mid-week rentals are almost always available same-day or next-day.
Know Your Load Weight
Wisconsin weighs overloaded trailers seriously. The state's legal axle weight limits apply to rental trailers the same as any commercial vehicle. If you're hauling gravel, stone, or heavy equipment, do the math: your tow vehicle's towing capacity must exceed the total loaded trailer weight, not just the trailer's empty weight.
Check the Weather
Fond du Lac County gets significant snow and rain. If you're hauling anything that can't get wet — furniture, electronics, motorcycle, tools — book the enclosed trailer. Wisconsin weather in spring and fall is genuinely unpredictable, and open trailers offer zero rain protection.
Measure Your Load Before You Book
The 6'×12' enclosed trailer gives you 6 feet of width and roughly 10 feet of usable cargo length. The 20ft car hauler handles full-size vehicles end to end. The 8.5'×24' tilt deckover is the widest and longest open-deck option. If you're moving large items or heavy equipment, know your dimensions so we can point you to the right unit.
Why Rent Local Instead of Going to a Chain
Big-box trailer rental at U-Haul and Home Depot comes with mileage caps, per-mile charges after the limit, and equipment that sees hundreds of renters and minimal inspection between uses. You also get a call center when something goes wrong, not a real person who cares about your job getting done.
With Fondy Trailer Rentals, you get Nick's direct cell number, properly maintained equipment, zero mileage limits, and a local who knows the roads, the dump sites, and the quirks of hauling in Fond du Lac County. That matters when you're on the side of Highway 41 at 7pm with a question.
Ready to rent? Text Nick at (920) 381-9770 with the trailer you need, your dates, and your name. That's it — no online forms, no waiting on hold, no mileage math.
Frequently Asked Questions — FDL Rentals
Can I pick up in Fond du Lac and drop off in Plymouth?
Yes. We have pickup locations in both Fond du Lac and Plymouth. Talk to Nick when you book to confirm which location works best for your job.
Do you deliver trailers?
In some cases, yes. Ask Nick about delivery availability for your area and trailer type. Delivery fees apply.
What if I need the trailer longer than planned?
Text Nick before your rental period ends. If the trailer isn't booked back-to-back, extending is usually no problem. We'd rather you call than rush a return and cause an accident.
Do you rent trailers by the week?
Yes. Weekly rates are available on all trailers and offer significant savings over daily rates for big projects like farm work, construction site logistics, or extended moves.
