Nick started Fondy Trailer Rentals in September 2025 less than a year ago. The idea wasn't born in a business plan. It was born on the phone with national rental chains, trying to find a trailer that actually fit the job.
He'd been in Wisconsin his whole life, working warehouse and restaurant jobs, and whenever he needed to move something a piece of equipment, a load of yard waste, a vehicle the options were always the same: wrong sizes from the big chains, or prices that ballooned with mileage fees and surprise add-ons after he already committed. Nothing locally that just made sense.
So he got a trailer. Then another. Then a few more.
Fondy Trailer Rentals launched with the specific goal of being the local option that the national chains weren't: the right sizes, transparent pricing, no mileage gotchas, and a phone number that actually gets answered.
Why Owner-Operated Matters
The big-box rental chains run on volume. Their equipment cycles through hundreds of renters between inspections. Their staff turn over fast. When something goes wrong on the road, you call a 1-800 number and explain your situation to someone in another state who has never seen the trailer in question.
That's not how Fondy works. Nick personally:
- Inspects every trailer before it leaves the yard
- Walks every renter through hookup, brakes, lights, and load securement
- Answers his cell when you text including evenings, weekends, and on the road
- Maintains the fleet himself between rentals
- Knows the local roads, dump sites, weight stations, and quirks of hauling in Fond du Lac County
If you've never rented from Fondy, that level of access feels almost old-fashioned. If you have rented before, it's the reason you keep coming back.
What Fondy Specializes In
The current fleet covers most of what local renters actually need — 10 trailers in total:
- 6'×12' Enclosed Cargo Trailer — Moves, motorcycle hauling, weather-protected loads.
- 7.5'×16' Enclosed Cargo Trailer — The biggest enclosed in the fleet. Full apartment moves, two motorcycles side by side, side-by-sides, and heavier protected loads.
- 20ft Car Hauler with Electric Winch — Running and non-running vehicles.
- 8.5'×24' Enclosed Car Hauler — Vehicle plus household goods in one weather-protected trip.
- 18ft Utility Trailer — Lawnmowers, ATVs, brush, equipment.
- 6'×10' Dump Trailer (10K) — Yard waste, gravel, mulch, demo debris.
- 30'+5' Gooseneck Deckover (15,900 GVWR) — Skid steers, heavy equipment, multi-vehicle hauls.
- 8.5'×24' Tilt Deckover with Winch (14K) — Wide loads and oversized equipment.
- 6'×12' Open Utility Trailer — The lightweight, easy-to-tow workhorse entry-level pricing starts here.
- 6'×12' Air Tow Ground-Load Trailer — Deck lowers flat to the ground for safes, mechanic tool chests, skid steers, scissor lifts, and heavy furniture that hates ramps.
Every trailer goes out fully equipped: safety chains, ratchet straps, working lights, the right hitch hardware, and a walk-through before you pull away. There's no "rent the basics, bring your own straps" trick. The price you're quoted is the price you pay.
What Nick Knows
Beyond the trailers themselves, Nick is genuinely useful to talk to before you pick up. He can answer questions about:
- Which trailer fits your tow vehicle's capacity
- Brake controllers, gain settings, and Wisconsin's electric brake requirements
- Hitch ball sizes and pin setups (especially gooseneck-specific)
- Load securement how to actually strap down what you're hauling
- Dump-trailer use, tarping, and disposal site logistics
- Towing in Wisconsin weather: ice, wind off Lake Winnebago, deer-strike season, and where the rough patches of Highway 41 hide
If you're not sure which trailer is right for your job text first. The five minutes Nick spends asking what you're hauling, where, and with what truck saves you from the much bigger headache of showing up with the wrong rig.
Service Area
Fondy is based in Fond du Lac and routinely serves renters across:
- Fond du Lac County Fond du Lac, Waupun, Ripon, North Fond du Lac, Campbellsport
- Sheboygan County Plymouth, Sheboygan, Sheboygan Falls, Cedar Grove, Howards Grove
- Surrounding counties Oshkosh, Beaver Dam, Manitowoc, West Bend, Hartford, Appleton, Waupaca, Chilton
If you're driving more than about an hour to pick up, ask about delivery. It's not always available, but for the larger trailers and longer rentals it's worth a quick text to find out.
How to Book
Booking is intentionally simple. There's no online checkout, no portal account, no confirmation email cascade. You text Nick directly at (920) 381-9770 with three things:
- Which trailer you want
- The dates you need it
- Your name
That's it. Nick texts back with the rate, pickup time, and any prep questions. If the trailer's available, you're booked.
Prefer to research first? Browse the fleet, read the FAQ, or skim a few trailer rental guides covering everything from brake controllers to which trailer fits a 1-bedroom move. Then text when you're ready.
Reviews From Local Renters

The full set of reviews lives on the homepage; the Google Business Profile carries the verifiable record. Several mention things you'd expect clean equipment, easy pickup, great communication and several mention the thing you wouldn't expect from a rental company: Nick actually picking up his phone when something came up mid-rental.
